The residents at Ahava Healthcare and Brookdale Senior Living have not been able to have visitors due to the COVID-19 coronavirus since mid-March, but the facilities have implemented a creative way for the residents to communicate with their families.

Staff at Brookdale Senior Living are cheering up their residents with serenades, chocolates, flowers and even happy hour.

Members of Quittin’ Time serenaded residents at Brookdale of Junction City in the hopes of brighting residents’ day. According to member Bob Cervera, the hope is to hold more of these events when the weather is warm enough.

Family and friends are making the days a little brighter for residents of Brookdale Senior Living. Since visitation is temporarily restricted right now, loved ones are sharing messages of hope and kindness with chalk.

The Brookdale Westlake Village senior living center couldn’t postpone the opening day pitch, even after the Cleveland Indians were forced to postpone opening day because of COVID-19. “We’re a huge community and the canceling of opening day was a huge blow to us,” Director of Resident Engagement Julie Mooney said. That’s when they called up 87-year-old George Shinas.

Trudy Strauss is celebrating her 105th birthday in a way she didn’t expect. Her family had planned a big party, but due to the pandemic, it had to be canceled. Strauss lives at Brookdale Senior Living in Denver and is isolating to protect herself.

The Covid-19 pandemic has forced many senior living providers to retool their dining programs in short order.

In an effort to give residents and their relatives a way to form new memories, the staff at Brookdale Arlington turned the two glass doors between a dining room and an outdoor courtyard into a meeting space.

Five couples at Brookdale West Bay in Warwick celebrated a combined 242 years of marriage -- along with more than 30 grandchildren and at least a half dozen great-grandchildren -- this Valentine's Day.

Together for 61 years, Marge and Terry Huntsman met in their early 20s on a blind date in 1958 and as Marge says, "The rest is history." The couple is from Idaho Falls, but now lives in the Brookdale Assisted Living Center in Chubbuck.
