How to Overcome Loneliness During the Holidays
While the holiday season can be a joyous time for many gathering with friends and family, for others it can be a time of deep isolation and loneliness.
It was earlier this year that the U.S. Surgeon General issued an advisory citing an epidemic of loneliness and isolation.
One of the statistics cited in this advisory is that lacking social connection can increase the risk for premature death as much as smoking up to 15 cigarettes a day.
Key data from that same U.S. Surgeon General’s advisory also reported chronic loneliness and social isolation can increase the risk of developing dementia by approximately 50% in older adults.
