Rose Clauer is at a point in her life where she can finally relax. The mother of two is just a few months away from earning her doctorate in nursing, and is looking forward to spending more time with her children.
“They give me all the mom guilt, so when we’re done, we’re going to go to Disney world,” Rose said, explaining that her six-year-old daughter has been begging her to go for some time now.
It’s taken a lot of determination for Rose to get to this point in her life. She started nearly two decades ago, serving as a caregiver while still in nursing school. That’s where she developed her love for the profession and began honing the skills that made her successful.
Since her time as a caregiver, Rose has become an Area Nurse Manager for Brookdale’s West Division. She oversees 12 communities in her district, working closely with the nurses in those communities. Rose finds the role especially rewarding, she says, because she still remembers what it’s like to be one of those nurses who needs help.
“It’s kind of cool since I really started as a caregiver, I can really be a support to the caregivers and the nurses,” Rose explained. “I’ve been in their shoes and know about their challenges. I really know how hard it is and I can relate to them and support them the best I can.”
Rose says she finds inspiration from the nurses she works with. It was their resiliency that helped Rose find the determination to finish school while juggling a career and motherhood. She explained she was able to push through her difficult days by thinking about those nurses and the hardships they were dealing with. Rose explained, “If they can hang in there, I can hang in there.”
Now that she’s at a point where things in her life can begin to slow down, Rose is excited for her next challenge. “I’m going to learn how to cook,” she said. It’s just the next thing to be crossed off her long list of accomplishments, nearly two decades in the making.
