Melinda Hirn served as a nurse for 33 years before she joined Brookdale Senior Living. She tells us the path to becoming a nurse wasn’t exactly her decision. In fact, the career move was actually more of a demand, coming from her mother.
“My mother actually said, when I was a senior in high school, she’s going to be a nurse,” Melinda said. “So it looks like I’m going to be a nurse.” As the saying goes, mother knows best. In Melinda’s case, that may be actually be true.
“It turned out to be the best thing because I really love nursing,” Melinda said. “I love helping people.”
Melinda serves as a District Director of Clinical Services for Brookdale’s East Division. She’s responsible for overseeing 16 Brookdale communities in North Carolina, helping them with their clinical questions, providing guidance, and being there when necessary. It can be stressful at times, but she knows she’s doing something important for those who need her most.
After more than 30 years as a nurse, Melinda still enjoys the little things about the profession. She loves helping people and building personal relationships along the way. She feels nursing is something she was always meant to do, even if it wasn’t initially her idea.
When she’s not serving others at her Brookdale communities, Melinda likes to spend time with her husband, Bill. The two have been married 13 years and enjoy traveling and scuba diving.
