Some nurses believe the healthcare field is a calling. For Diana Tayiem it’s more of a family affair.
“I knew at an early age that I definitely wanted to do something in healthcare,” she said. Diana would later explain that one of her earliest memories was waiting for her father, a retired physician, to finish up with a surgery.
Diana has several siblings who are either nurses or working in the healthcare field in some capacity. That’s not to mention her husband, who serves as a healthcare leader at the local hospital near their home in Shawnee, Kansas.
Diana says she’s always wanted to help people. She earned her degree in Nursing from the University of Kansas and found a position at St. John Hospital. After several years at the hospital, Diana moved into a director position, overseeing a geriatric behavioral unit.
In 2020, she joined Brookdale as the Executive Director of Brookdale Shawnee. Just two years later, she was asked to take on more responsibility and serve as an Area Director, overseeing three additional Brookdale communities in the surrounding area.
While her time at Brookdale has come with personal growth, there have also been some challenges. In April 2022, Brookdale Topeka experienced a significant flooding event that required all the residents living at the community to be temporarily relocated. It was during this event that Diana shined, helping navigate the difficult situation with poise and resolve. However, when asked about those difficult days, Diana humbly says it was a team effort.
“It was just amazing to see everyone come together whether they knew what was going on or just showed up to help,” Diana said.
Diana says this teamwork and comradery are part of why she loves working for a company like Brookdale. She says working at Brookdale offers a world of possibilities and professionalism.
