Brookdale Recognizes Fourth Annual Cornerstone Award Recipients

Steven Hensel, Dining Services Director at Brookdale Trillium Crossing, received the “Bill Sheriff Passion Cornerstone Award.

Steven has worked at Brookdale for 22 years. Steven makes sure everyone feels cared for. He is supportive of new and existing associates in helping them understand what passion and commitment look like. He will do whatever needs to be done and accomplishes it with a positive attitude. If he doesn’t know how to do something, he will figure it out. If Steven says he will do it, you can rest assured he will.

Erica Gonzales, a Health and Wellness Director at Brookdale North Austin, received the “Jackie Clegg Courage Cornerstone Award.”

Erica has displayed an incredible amount of courage through many challenges. She truly constructively addresses difficult issues. In February of 2021, when Winter Storm Uri came to Austin, she took appropriate actions to help protect her residents while pitching in wherever she was needed. She remained steady and calm and helped lead her team, giving directions and lending a hand as needed. She has helped her community through many challenging situations, all the while doing her HWD duties and being a leader and a partner

Elaine Kiehler, a Clare Bridge Program Director at the Solana Vintage Park, TX, received the “Frank Bumstead Partnership Cornerstone Award.”

Elaine helped create an exemplary Clare Bridge neighborhood. Her passion for those with dementia is incredibly heart-warming and inspiring. Elaine collaborates with all other departments, leaders, and staff members whenever help is needed. She’s always one of the first to volunteer to help. Elaine is also a mentor for caregivers in her department. Her goal is to teach and educate them so they can be their very best when it comes to serving seniors with dementia.

Scott has demonstrated trust by providing strategic and sound thought for high-impact Brookdale transactions. In his role, Scott supports finance leadership by helping to evaluate the risks and benefits of Brookdale transactions. Scott consistently asks the right questions at the right time to uncover creative solutions while helping protect the interests of Brookdale residents, associates and shareholders. Once solutions become a possibility, Scott works tirelessly to provide thorough documentation to support accounting conclusions and to vet any other implications for a transaction. Scott has gained the support and trust of both internal associates and external partners.
