What started as a conversation in March of 2022, has turned into an incredible work of art at Brookdale Remington Park in Lubbock, Texas.
That conversation started with the community’s Sales Manager, Bill Lofton, and Dining Service Supervisor, JR Picon.
“I spent three years as a contractor in Afghanistan in support of our military and three of my sons are Marines,” said Lofton. “Our military and our vets are near and dear to me. Our Executive Director, Caitlin Arthur, agreed with me and JR that we needed something special. We discussed and decided we wanted a flag painted on the wall.”
JR, also an artist, was able to complete the project in a matter of eight days.
“JR is a very talented young man and a personal friend of mine. JR has a huge amount of civic pride and loves our vets,” said Lofton.
The mural has been a huge success, leaving residents and associates beaming with pride for their community and their country.
“Residents have been very proud of it. Have seen many tears over it,” Lofton added, “Our Veterans can feel our appreciation and see it daily. We wanted them to know how important they are to us and to feel love from the community.”
