Philip Is Thankful He ”Fell” Into Work That He Loves

If you ask Philip Potts, Executive Director at Brookdale Cushing Park in Framingham, Mass., how he started in senior living, he’ll tell you that he sort of “fell” into it. After graduating college and realizing that working behind a computer all day was not something he was interested in doing, a friend asked if he would be willing to join her team as the Sales and Marketing Director at a senior living community. He agreed to try the role for a year. That year, he fell in love with assisted living.

“It’s such a great feeling knowing you’ve helped someone. We have an opportunity to educate folks, to help them understand that senior living isn’t the end. It’s just another step in their life and one that could be a really good step.

Watching that person who may have been living alone, only seeing people once and a while, then coming to Brookdale and instantly gaining 100 new friends – seeing their faces light up, it’s amazing,” shared Phil.

Phil strongly believes in Brookdale’s mission, and in his 20 years with the company, has learned so much along the way. However, one thing he’s known from the beginning – we are here to do the right thing for our residents, and we’re a company he can trust. “I would move my own parents into any Brookdale community. We stand behind our word, and we do what we say we’re going to do. I know that our associates want to do a good job and that they care so much for people.”

Over the years, his residents have also taught him a thing or two. Hearing their stories and all the things they’ve gone through in their lives has helped him see what’s important in life. It’s not always what you have, but it’s your friends and family that are important, and life is what you make of it.

It’s doing the right thing for Brookdale residents that keeps Phil motivated to show more people that senior living can help them live life to the fullest. “It’s all about helping make someone’s life better – if I can make one person smile each day – I’ve done my job. I’m proud to be part of a company that truly enriches lives."
