Brookdale Senior Living President and CEO Lucinda “Cindy” Baier was the featured guest and host of close to 15 women on the Leadership Healthcare board. Leadership Healthcare (LHC) is an initiative of the Nashville Health Care Council that provides educational and networking opportunities for emerging leaders in healthcare. Baier serves as Vice-Chair of the Nashville Health Care Council’s Board of Directors.
She offered attendees advice and answered their questions about navigating career growth and finding fulfillment.
“Make sure you are at a company where you can be yourself, and you believe in the mission,” said Baier.
Other advice she shared with the group is to be trustworthy, have a strong work ethic, develop resilience, have a strategic focus while also being detail-oriented, be a team builder and collaborator, communicate clearly and effectively, actively learn new skills and information, and have the courage to take risks.
“If you don’t fail at all, you’re not trying hard enough, and you’re probably playing it too safe,” said Baier.
Baier also emphasized the importance of further connecting all facets of the healthcare continuum. In particular, she noted how integral senior living is in caring for some of the populations’ most vulnerable and in enriching lives. Baier asked the group of future healthcare leaders to do their part to advance care and to pay it forward by helping other high-potential healthcare colleagues succeed.
