Everyone has a role to play in the bright future of healthcare, according to Brookdale CEO Cindy Baier. Baier was an active participant in the virtual Transformative CEO Summit: “Opening Up The World,” and was part of the Healthcare workgroup team that addressed critical topics as we emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic. Baier said that, as we move forward, it’s very important to remember that everyone has a role to play and that businesses need all their employees to be engaged and working together for a brighter future. Baier acknowledged that learning, growth, and development can feel uncomfortable and so people need to get comfortable with being uncomfortable!
Baier shared that Brookdale’s pandemic response was strong for a number of reasons including 1) flexibility, which comes from being an agile, learning organization; 2) maintaining a positive leadership approach with the question being not whether but how the company would succeed; and 3) making it acceptable for employees to ask for help. Compassion fatigue is real, especially among caregivers with servant hearts, and so positive steps were needed to help Brookdale’s associates avoid burnout by caring for themselves as well as for the company’s residents and patients.
Forbes magazine recently posted The CEO Forum’s annual listing of 10 CEOs Transforming Healthcare in America, which includes Baier.
