Celebrating Love at Brookdale

To celebrate Valentine’s Day, we asked our communities to share stories about couples who met and fell in love after moving to Brookdale. From love at first sight to rekindling a high school romance and every smooch, wink and fairytale between, one thing is for sure—romance is alive in the halls of Brookdale. Our residents never stop changing the perception of aging, especially when it comes to matters of the heart. Here are a few of their love stories.

Jerry (82) and Joyce (84) met at Brookdale Zanesville in Zanesville, Ohio. They met on a walking trail after Jerry’s daughter asked Joyce to help walk with him. They continued every day after. They share the same values in faith and family.

Gil & Ruth, both 85, were new to the Brookdale Bluewater Bay in Niceville, Fla, when they met at dinner. Gil was assigned to the same dining table as Ruth. He noticed her immediately. 273 days later, they wed in that same dining hall.

Sonny (91) and Jeannette (85) both reside in Brookdale Danville Diablo Road, Danville, Calif. Their friendship quickly changed to more in June 2018, after Sonny gave Jeannette a kiss while walking back to their apartments. They say they are very compatible and do whatever it takes to impress one another.

Earle (90) was a resident at Brookdale Riverwalk, Bakersfield, Calif., when he reconnected with and Laurette (89). They were high school sweethearts and sparks flew after 75 years apart when Laurette called to wish Earle a “Happy Birthday.” Laurette moved in and they will be getting married in March.

Chuck (84) and Sharon (75) met at a BFit Exercise Class at Brookdale Tequesta in Tequesta, Fla. Two years later, they are still exercising together daily. Chuck says that Sharon has changed his outlook on life. They both agree that they treasure time with one another.

Steve (87) and Margo (81) were enjoying a happy hour at Brookdale West University in Houston, Texas when they met and found a lot in common. Margo is very active, and while they do a lot of activities together, she still maintains her own community work. Steve says that this is the, “greatest love affair ever.”

Billy (89) is an upstairs neighbor to Barbara (84), at Brookdale Windsor in Windsor, Calif. The twosome has been together for about six months after Barbara approached Bill and told him she liked him. He taps his walking stick on the floor two times every night to say goodnight.
