Senior living serves a vital role in America and Brookdale Senior Living, in particular, is making a difference. That’s according to Brookdale President & CEO Lucinda “Cindy” Baier, who participated in a live, on-stage interview at the recent Interface Seniors Housing Midwest conference in Chicago. Baier told the publisher of Seniors Housing Business, Richard Kelley, and members of the live audience that, with about 800 communities across the country, Brookdale is by far the largest senior living company. But she quickly pointed out that, while size matters, quality and the personal touch are also important. She believes senior living is a local business and that the company will succeed one relationship at a time.
Baier shared thoughts on the important role senior living is starting to play in improving the healthcare landscape, making it possible for seniors to avoid unnecessary hospital admissions and improve their quality of life by providing needed services in Brookdale’s communities. She was candid about the challenges the entire industry faces and how Brookdale is addressing them and she shared stories that showed how senior living is a very personal business and how people who work in it are frequently mission-driven.
