Ann O’Farrell has played many roles. Among other things, she’s been a drama therapist, theater director, designer and author. It’s that last role that led her to a new chapter in life, one she describes as “luxurious.”
A native of Ireland, Ann moved to the United States with her husband, a former pilot. She began writing about the cultural differences she observed in the states, which included language, food, health care and humor. Fellow members of writers’ group encouraged Ann to draft a novel, so she turned to what she knew best, Ireland.
Ann has written five novels, all historical fiction based in Ireland. Her characters were inspired by people she knew. While on a speaking tour promoting her books she visited a senior living community and liked what she saw. After visiting more than 10 communities Ann and her husband chose Brookdale in Seminole, Fla.
“I think I’m more physically active at Brookdale then I have been in my whole life,” Ann said. “I’m so enjoying getting to know all the people here. It’s a luxurious life. This is like living in a hotel with loads of activities. For the first time in both our lives we can do what we want to and not what we have to do.”
