Brookdale Gaines Ranch resident Bernie Mayoff’s social calendar is packed! After 36 years in the tech industry, Bernie retired and went on to volunteer, teach, and pursue his passion for amateur photography. He now shares his interests with fellow residents by leading community clubs, and presentations as well as starting one of the largest social events of the year, Mayoff Day! Sky’s the limit for Dick Albers! The professional and celebrated comedic trampolinist is among our Brookdale residents whose rich lives continue to shine brightly during their golden years. Dick’s “Comedic Trampoline Act” toured for 20 years, performing multiple halftime shows for the Globetrotters, at seven different casinos on the Las Vegas Strip and appearing on The Ed Sullivan Show five times. He even traveled to Vietnam with Bob Hope to entertain American troops during the war. Though retired, Dick still leaves people smiling with his amazing stories about life in the entertainment business! Jerry West spent 20 years in the Federal Bureau of Investigations as an FBI agent, chasing down bank robbers, spies, and suspects in high-profile cases. Along with a sense of community and meaningful friendships, some Brookdale Senior Living residents also find romantic connections. Kathy Manzi, a widow for 23 years, has found unexpected companionship with fellow widower and Veteran Larry Powell. Together, they have enriched each other's lives by exploring shared passions like dancing and travel.

A tragedy led to an unexpected blessing for one Brookdale resident. Evelyn Rogers moved into Brookdale Altamonte Springs after her home was damaged in a fire in 2023. At the time, she believed the move would be temporary until her home repairs were complete. However, within weeks, the Florida native realized she wanted to stay, stating “This is where I needed to be.”

After 20 years in the Navy, Courtney Santos’ heart for service led her to a new career, working with seniors. The veteran is now the Resident Engagement Manager at Brookdale Mandarin in Jacksonville, Florida. Courtney says she was “made to serve,” and working with residents is something she loves.

Artist Cheryl Evans is carving out a brighter future with Brookdale Senior Living. However, Cheryl says being part of the Brookdale community has sparked new creativity and given her purpose again.

Jim Novotny is helping fellow Brookdale residents raise a glass to a rich life! The veteran calls Brookdale Chambrel Williamsburg in Williamsburg, VA, home. After losing his wife, Jim has found new purpose and friendships through his beer club. The club brings residents together monthly for trips to breweries around Williamsburg and has become so popular that it has more than doubled in size.
