In Tacoma, Washington, a resident just turned 106 years old. Her name is Tina Gerlack, and even at her age, she is still active and independent. She retired at 72. But she hasn't lost the spirit. "I like to work. As old as I am, I still like to work."

Residents at Brookdale Wilmington celebrated all things tomato with "Mater Mania." Cooks prepared all sorts of tomato-based dishes, like salsa and sandwiches. Residents also helped, by cultivating tomatoes, basil, and rosemary.

Carolyn Fleischauer has seen a lot in her 105 years. She was born a year before World War I ended, and since then has raised a family of strong women: a daughter, two granddaughters, and three great-granddaughters.

Trudy Buckwalter is celebrating a milestone birthday: 105 years old! Friends and family threw her a party at Brookdale Destin. Her family says Trudy has accomplished so much in her life, including helping create a school for children with special needs in Wooster, Ohio. “It's just amazing. It's all because of her,” her daughter says.

Residents at Brookdale Weatherford gathered to enjoy April's solar eclipse. They donned eclipse glasses, answered space trivia, and enjoyed eclipse-themed snacks and drinks.

All over Canton, Ohio, cheers erupted Monday as folks watched the moon eclipse the sun. At Brookdale Canton, residents held a "solar-bration", complete with commemorative photos marking the once-in-a-generation event.

World War II veteran Emil G. Hirsch is a five-year resident of Brookdale Northbrook. Friday, he recieved France's highest distinction of honor for his role in liberating France during the war. “I feel overwhelmed, if you want to know,” Hirsch said. “It’s the highest honor that one can get and I’m forever grateful."

At Brookdale Cedar Springs, residents came outside around 2 p.m. to watch the solar eclipse. While some were blown away by the eclipse, others - like Jim Lyons - say their favorite part of the whole experience was the snacks.

Brookdale Olney residents got to see the eclipse on Monday. They described it as "incredible", "amazing", and "exciting". “This is once-in-a-lifetime, and I’d be happy to view it with the glasses," said Mark Ehman, a resident. "It just makes us stand in awe of our Universe."

Brookdale New Braunfels threw an "Eclipse the Day" party - with snacks, drinks, appetizers, and friends and family. Some residents had never seen an eclipse before and say they were excited to see it get dark.

Monday, residents at Remington Park got to see the solar eclipse. For some, like Gloria Dennis, it was their first time. "It was fantastic," Gloria said. "I loved it, beauty of it, beauty of everybody to go and see it." And she didn't watch it alone; her granddaughter, Anna, joined her.

Residents at Brookdale Waterview Court gathered outside to watch the solar eclipse. This is the last eclipse the U.S. will see for 20 years. And residents say - they aren't taking it for granted: “The one we had today is, of course, the last one I’ll see...and not too many in between.”

France is honoring a Brookdale Northbrook resident - PFC. Emil Hirsch - with its highest honor. In 1943, Emil was drafted into the Army. He fought deep into France, defending it from Nazis. “I realize it's not what I singularly did,” Hirsch says. “But it wasn't in vain.”

At 105 years old, Round Rock resident Elizabeth Morris still remembers Austin in the 1920s: baking pies, farming, keeping chickens. And for Austinites today who care to listen, her advice to live life well is simple: “I’m just telling everybody, just take it easy and slow. Enjoy life. That’s what I’m trying to do."

Residents at Brookdale Summer Ridge are excited for the upcoming solar eclipse. "Well, I know I’m not gonna see another one in my lifetime, so this is it!" one resident said. The community is throwing a "solar-bration" on Monday, with special eclipse-themed food and drinks.
